• 1914 – Volunteer Brigade was disbanded and a fully paid Fire Department with four Fire Stations came into being.
  • 1919 – In June a union was formed and a charter was received from the International Association of Fire fighters, to be known as the “City Fire Fighters Union – Local 181 – IAFF”
  • 1919 – Inauguration of the two-platoon system.
  • 1924 – Group Insurance Policy started.
  • 1925 – Affiliation with the Interprovincial Association of Fire Fighters.
  • 1934 – Affiliation with the Federation of Civic Employees.
  • 1935 – Interprovincial Association of Fire Fighters disbanded.
  • 1936 – Sick and Accident fund established.
  • 1939 – One day off in seven instituted.
  • 1940 – Saskatchewan Association of Fire Fighters formed.
  • 1946 – Three Platoon system with 48-hour workweek.
  • 1953 – Mandatory Arbitration legislation for Saskatchewan Fire Fighters passed.
  • 1956 – Affiliated with founding convention of Saskatchewan Federation of labour.
  • 1957 – Hours of worked reduced to 44 hours per week.
  • 1958 – Hours of work reduced to 40 hours per week. Compulsory Civic Pension Plan started.
  • 1961 - Compulsory Group Insurance Policy with $10,000 per member.
  • 1963 – Adopt “Atwood’s Rules for Meetings” in conjunction with IAFF.
  • 1964 – Scholarship set up for children of Local 181 members.
  • 1966 – Four Platoon, two shift system set up with 42-hour work week.
  • 1967 – Group Insurance, $15,000 life and $15,000 accidental death.
  • 1971 – April 1, union dues set at 1% of first class Fire Fighters rate of pay. Start of the Fire Fighter Circus and the use of Circus Gatti.
  • 1974 – Article 12 – Death and Disability Benefits bargained into contract. Establishment of the Fire Fighters Burn Fund Committee.
  • 1978 – Group Insurance, $35,000 life and $15,000 accidental death and dismemberment.
  • 1979 – Opening of Fire Fighter Museum at RFD headquarters.
  • 1982 – Group Insurance, 250% of Annual Salary.
  • 1986 – Group Dental Plan implemented – 50/50 cost share.
  • 1988 – Name changed to Regina Professional Fire Fighters’ Association, Local 181 IAFF. Establishment of Emergency Disputes Fund (EDF). Association dues set at 1.2% of first class fire fighters rate of pay.
  • 1990 – Introduction of Members Benefit Fund for EAP, Children’s Christmas party and Local 181 Retirement Banquet.
  • 1995 – Standby pay established in the Contract.
  • 1998 – Group Medical Plan implemented – 50/50 cost share.
  • 2003 – 15th year firefighter added increasing Officer indexing
  • 2003 – Premiums for Shift Trainers and CROs
  • 2012 – Local 181 Retiree Medical Plan implemented
